Iconic Movie Hair You Could Definitely Rock!

There have been many iconic movie hairdos throughout the years, but it’s rare that you see them emulated on the street. This is most likely due to them being highly impractical and a little bit bonkers when transposed from a galaxy far far away to the vegetable aisle of your local supermarket. But we say, don’t be put off!

The Princess

Let’s start with that twin bun affair hinted at in the intro as worn by the geeky man’s crumpet Carrie Fisher in the seminal sci-fi smash Star Wars. Her character Princess Leia is kind of kick ass and clearly didn’t want the inconvenience of her tresses getting caught up during her execution of a spinning back-fist. As it turned out a Stromtrooper shouted ‘set to stun’ and she folded like a house of cards.

However the hair remained perfect. Two coils of hair held like perfect Danish pastries of her ears emanating from a parting straighter than the morals of Admiral Ackbar.

If you’re going to rock this look: you better love the attention of nerds, be planning a rebellion or have lost your earmuffs.

The Moll

Arguably many iconic movie hairdos have been worn by women playing the squeezes of gangsters. The look we are talking about though is that as made pop culture hip by one Uma Thurman in Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. The look is that of razor sharp, jet black bob with bangs as sported by Mia Wallace.

The cut has history and can be traced back to Louise Brooks who was quite the Hollywood character and epitomized 30s glamour.

If you’re going to rock this look: don’t hold back, Uma wore a wig, which is fine if you’re in a movie but it ain’t no good if you’re in the urban jungle. Straight lines, black hole dark and bangs bolder than the fourth of July!

The skin head for girls is a look that’s not really ever got passed the positive associations born from Sinead O’Conner’s music video for Nothing Compares 2 U. However there are plenty of renaissance examples of this cut in recent movie history. No before you start praising Demi and Natalie think back a little further.

In David Fincher’s Alien 3 movie Sigourney Weaver cropped the lot for her role as Ellen Ripley trapped on a prison planet with a bunch of unpleasant fellows with dubious histories and acid for blood xenopmorphs.

If you’re going to rock this look: prepare to be chilly and/or have a period of mourning, where you will, without doubt regret your decision. If you make it through this and don’t retreat to the misguided choice of bandana as a fashionable alternative you’ll be super fierce, and that is all cool!
